VINTAGE PHOTO OF EUGENE LAURANT MAURICE RAYMOND & HOWARD THURSTONPhoto mounted on some kind of board (I can't really make out the writing underneath).
Group Snapshot Portrait. "When Shall We Three Meet Again?" [New York], 1914. Sepia-tone portrait of the three famous magicians together, occasioned by their meeting at the Hotel Statler (Buffalo). 4.5" x 7.5".
An account of the dinner the three men shared was contributed by Laurant to "The Sphinx" (April, 1914) who writes that the trio's "wit and repartee" slowly attracted the attention of the entire dining room. Both "The Sphinx" and Goldston's "Magician Monthly" reproduced the photograph, the latter with the captioned with the quote from Macbeth.
Eugene Laurant (1875-1944), born Eugene Greenleaf, billed himself as the "Man of Many Mysteries". After a highly successful career performing in rural America and on the Chautauqua circuit during World War I, he turned to school assembly shows with great success.
Maurice Francois Raymond (1877-1948) toured the world as The Great Raymond.
One act that Raymond was known for was his "Mytempsicosis — fastest trunk escape in the world", performed with his wife, Lipzka.
He was sponsored into the S.A.M. by Houdini in 1921
Howard Thurston (July 20, 1869 - April 13, 1936) was a world famous stage magician from Columbus, Ohio. He had the largest traveling Vaudeville magic show for the time, requiring more than eight entire train cars to transport his props and equipment across the country.
