Description
Here's a moving coil phono step up transformer box for use with your Altec Peerless transformers. This is most specifically intended for the 4665 transformers, but it has settings that will also work with the 4722 and the standard 15095.This is not recommended for the 15095A
. The 4665's primary arrangement allows 4 possible ratios, and the switches on this box allow all 4 to be accessed. The bottom panel has a chart showing the correct settings for each ratio, as well as the settings for the 4722 or 15095.
The box has holes that allow the 4665's to be screwed down. I recommend doing so for the best possible shielding.
This box also has a ground switch to select how the case is earthed. "L" attaches the case to the left audio shield, "L+R" attaches it to both the left and right shields (so they're also connected together). If you prefer to leave the L, R and chassis grounds separated as they come out of your turntable, you can put the switch in the center position and the case will be not be attached to either audio channel ground. In the center position the case still needs to be earthed, so this requires running a separate wire from the SUT to the preamp ground post. In general you don't need to worry too much about what the ground switch is doing, just hook the SUT up however you like, and put the switch on whichever position gives the least hum.
I've included some photos showing how the 4665's fit and orient on the box, but of course none are included. Thanks for looking!
