    POWER MODEL SET
***** my 100th set for sale and sold! *****
1958 AC Gilbert Erector Set 10041
*******100 % COMPLETE, LAID OUT LIKE NEW!********
$$$$$ VERY ORIGINAL CONDITION BOX AND MOST PARTS $$$$$$$
This set was in very good shape for a set sold in 1958. I’d say this set has been well cared for since it was so nice. Most of these sets go to children who quickly on Christmas day pull all the parts off of the cardboard layout panels and throw all of the packaging materials away. The set was not missing very many parts when I got it and I inventoried it, made it complete, and laid it out per the layout diagram. This truly looks like it is brand new, except for some scratches on the box.
This is the perfect Christmas, birthday or anniversary gift!  Get it for your child or perhaps dad or grandad had one when they were young!  Or buy this for someone very special in your life to just proudly display like I have had done with my 55 sets for many years. What else can you buy that is 64 years old that still looks like this? Certainly not 99% of all the things produced back then, including cars!
This will be one of the 100 sets I’ve sold in the last few years. I have sold 1 set in the past month that was only listed for about 24 hours! (Some sales are not on EBay. EBAY is constantly raising fees and now filing taxes so we need to all migrate off eBay, do personal sales)
I have many repeat customers that I build special sets for, including a set that I painted bright yellow! (I also sell parts). I just finished shipping the 8th set to my now favorite customer. I started making offers he could not refuse, so he took advantage and built himself a “SUPER COLLECTION’ of some of my best restored sets. Fantastic repainted 8 1/2, DuPont automotive painted 9 1/2, repainted 10 1/2, and a bunch of near perfect smaller sets!
++++Repeat customers are given HUGE DISCOUNTS on future sets!++++
Most of my pre- Christmas sales are people getting sets for loved ones, who had a set long ago, and they knew getting a COMPLETE ONE for them would make the best Christmas present to bring back fond childhood memories! (Buying someone an INCOMPLETE SET for a Christmas present doesn’t seem like a very good present, so READ ON!!)
The number 10041 set is one of the neatest sets made in this later era. This set is called the POWER MODEL SET. It has a nice DC-3 motor that runs on 2 regular batteries (3 volts total) that fit in the 2 NJ battery holders provided. I have included a couple of wires to hook the motor up to the battery holders. The right side cardboard panel that holds these items is very cool looking but turned out to be the hardest to build cardboard out of every set I have ever built! I added a few beams in the middle to keep this panel looking perfect forever! I built 4 of the 10042 sets at the same time, then this 10041 which has the same right side cardboard except the back yellow label. 1 goes in my permanent collection, one of each kind, and the other 3 sold already!
    It is:
    1) inventoried.  (Per Greensburg's guide to erector sets) 100% complete down to every screw and nut.
The inventory is when you check each part against an inventory sheet to make sure it's there, and add it, if it is missing. This inventory sheet came from the book "Greenberg's Guide to the Erector Sets Vol 2" (ISBN # 0897780752)
It has no missing parts, it's 100% complete.
    2) organized
Laid out and parts bagged just like it would look when new.
The organizing includes attaching most of the parts to the cardboard and the large MN baseplates. This set is laid out with rare original T-clips.
(You should easily be able to sell this set in a few years as Erector Sets get even more valuable and make quite a bit of money! A 62 year old anything is always collectible)
Date is from the set number, 10041, only made in 1958.
Most steel parts are Cadmium (CAD) plated in this year range.  This set has very good CAD plating that is very good and is durable to last all these years. The part name A, B and C girders are TIN plated in this era and this plating tends to change to black, but this set has parts that are still pretty nice looking. There is no rust on any of these parts.  I go through all of the parts and replace any that need it.  In this set I replaced not too many parts because of looks, mostly because it was missing.
This set was shocking to me when I got it.  When I looked at the photos it looked 100 % complete and I know my parts. It was missing more then a few parts. If you don't spend the kind of money I'm asking for this set, you're looking at potentially half the parts missing even though they say it "looks complete, (sold as is!)" This is the way sets will be that say they're "mostly complete" but they don't actually have an inventory sheet that's not checked off like I do with this set. Beware!  You get what you pay for! The most expensive 10041 sets for sale sometimes on eBay are not inventoried like mine is and are listed for close to the same price as mine is!   I just saw a 10 1/2 set on eBay for 0, not inventoried and certainly not complete or laid out and I sell more like new 10 1/2’s for 0 - 0. There is a 10042 for sale for and you don’t even know if you are getting all the parts normally found in these sets from the factory! Also, they also are not laid out, using all original patterns like my sets! Why would someone buy these other sets?
    Condition:
    Metal:
The set is in very good shape! All of the CAD plating is in great shape for its age. The TIN plated parts have only a small amount of the shine is worn off some of the parts (A, B and C girders). I have cleaned all the plated parts so they look as good as possible. Any discoloration is mostly caused from aging plating, not use. This set does not appear to be played with very much (not much scoring in the plating from screws or nuts being rotated)
    The brass and bronze parts:
These parts are all original style. The plating is nice. All have the proper set screws in them.
    Screws and nuts:
The screws and nuts have been inventoried-counted and all of them are correct quantities per the inventory sheet. (this is extremely, extremely, extremely rare!)
    Tools
This set is complete with all of its tools. All are in good condition. It is rare to find a set with all of its tools. This set calls for a P33 wire type screwdriver.
    1 screwdriver- P33 wire type
    1 MM Wrench
    1 MW Nut holder
    Motor:
The DC-3 electric 3 volt motor operates like new. It has both of the correct thumb nuts to attach the wires (included). Power is supplied by 2 1.5 volt batteries (not included) that fit into the 2 NJ battery holders (wired in series per instructions). I have cleaned and oiled it. See photos.
    Painted parts:
All of the base plates MN, MF, MD, and MY are the original paint and look pretty good for their age. All of the red parts have original red paint that has better then typical paint quality. See photos. (AC Gilbert did not prime any of the steel parts before painting.) The MCs are the original yellow.
    Axles:
A few of the axles were missing when I got it but I have added axles that are in great shape. No bends.
    Manual:
The manual is in the set is not the original, that was lost. I have included a new reproduction bigger size 8 1/2 manual. It will show some of the models u have enough parts to build with this set and then there are more pages of models that use the bigger 120 volt A49 motor. If u are interested in building these bigger models, I have many bigger sets for sale on eBay. See photos
    Case/box:
The case is in really nice condition for its age. It has it’s original latch and it is in working condition. The case had some scratches and some minor dents on the lid and sides, but looks really good for its age! See photos
    Reproduction parts:
The following reproduction parts have been used in the restoration of this set:
    All Cardboard layout layers
    P 34 hank of string
    The AJ flag.
This makes a great collectors item or a wonderful way to build with your son or daughter or grandchildren and give them some time away from the TV, video game or computer.
WHAT A GIFT! You will not be disappointed with this set! It is one of the most collectible sets ever sold on eBay and not the most expensive!
