Description
This informative card was issued
by the SKINNER MANUFACTURING COMPANY of
Omaha
Nebraska
as an insert premium in their brands of SKINNERS RAISIN BRAN CEREAL. The series is designat
ed
as F281 -3 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue, and is entitl
ed
“Magic Tricks Slips” Unfortunately Burdick does not provide the number of cards issu
ed
in the series, or a date that the series was issu
ed
. In my years of collecting the highest number I have ever seen in this series is # 97. There is also a small copyright date on the trick image on the card of 1937, and I have always assum
ed
that that is the date this series was issu
ed
(however that is just speculation on my part) The front of the card shows a black and white drawing of the trick being perform
ed
, while having a description of how to do the trick below.THIS IS # 4 IN THE SERIES The back continues with the trick description and also details how one could exchange 3 of the slips found in the cereal for a Book of Magic.
Because of this premium exchange offer from the company, finding these cards is extremely tough. Most kids would have sent them away for the Book of magic (what kid would turn down free stuff?)
. The card is print
ed
on thin paper stock rather than cardboard, hence the name “Magic Trick Slips”. Again this probably add
ed
to the scarcity of these cards, as they are more fragile than cardboard stock cards, and would be easily destroy
ed
. There are two size variations for this set a small and Large size This card is of the large size measuring 4 inches by 2 3/4 inches approximately The card does have some winkles near the top centre. I believe that this was from the factory and the way that the card was attached to the inside of the box. Other than that the card is free from creases, and i think displays very nicely. I have scanned the card, both front and back, fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
In my opinion cards from this series are one of the harder Early American Cereal type cards to come by.
This is a scarce card that has huge cross over collect-ability. Covet
ed
by both Card collectors and those interest
ed
in Magic Memorabilia.
I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories),
including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities and Circus themes. To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them.
I am actually located in Canada just across the border. I have a U.S.A. mailing address, and I mail my items from the USA to avoid border delays.
Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship Monday Mornings
. If I haven’t received payment for an item the EVENING BEFORE Monday the item will have to wait until the next Monday to go out. Its unfortunate but unavoidable. If this doesn’t work for you I respectfully ask that you do not bid or buy. Thanks again.
I will COMBINE SHIPPING within Canada and the USA on items of similar size that are sold on the same day.
I am sorry but ebay's global shipping program does not allow combined shipping on International shipments.
