    Description

Offered here is a nice example of a 1933 No. 6 Gilbert Erector set.
The set has been inventoried per Greenberg’s Guide and is complete down to the last nut and bolt.
Gilbert started packing their Erector sets in metal boxes in 1933; No. 6 in a primarily green box and No. 7 in a red box (variations exist).
The early 1933 No. 6 box top came with a left-over ERECTOR decal from 1932 which was subsequently changed later in the year to a black-background “kneeling boy” label.
Some reproductions were used in the restoration of this set.
The bottom insert, lid insert, wooden block supporting the P56G, flag, string and maybe some of the nuts/screws are reproductions.
The P56G motor is a good runner, sounds just like a dentist’s drill as it gets up to speed.
One of the auction photos shows the motor with the bottom insert removed as the motor’s base was left separate from the motor as the assembly would not fit in the box.
The motor cord has had an electrical tape repair near the motor.
The manual is a fair original.
It is complete, but some of the pages are dog-eared.
Also, the staples are rusty so the back pages have pulled loose from the cover.

If you are interested in learning more about Gilbert Erector sets, Google ACGHS for the home page of the A. C. Gilbert Heritage Society.
Included in the photos is a sample page of an Erector parts guide I wrote about 10 years ago; it details the variations of all of the parts used between 1933 – 1962 and is available as a free download from the ACGHS web site.
Another trivial fact; the ACGHS president and webmaster is one of A. C. Gilbert’s grandsons!
